The New York Women's Foundation

The New York Women’s Foundation® (NYWF®) was established in 1987 as a public philanthropy to be a voice for women and a force for change. We are a cross-cultural alliance of women helping low-income women and girls in the five boroughs to achieve sustained economic security through expanded opportunities. We work together to transform the conditions of poverty and to create an equal and just future for low-income women and girls.

Driven by the commitment to promote the long–term economic security of New York City’s women and families, New York Women’s Foundation® (NYWF®) and its partners launched an initiative in response to the harshest economic downturn in decades.

RISE’NYC! a three year initiative, will distribute a minimum of $10 million to New York City community–based organizations working with women and families hardest hit by the economic crisis.

RISE–NYC! – Respond, Inspire, Solve, Engage – will mobilize financial and human resources to:
  • Promote economic security for women & families

  • Create opportunities for New Yorkers to volunteer their skills and talents to assist families dealing with a variety of challenges during this crisis

  • Build partnership across sectors to maximize investment and accelerate solutions
